We can barely contain our excitement as we eat and drink our way through the new offerings! Our next destination; Sunset Bar.
The brand-new rooftop bar is already stealing hearts; one foot in the door and you are instantly transported to a sun-soaked oasis. Our serotonin levels are at an all-time high with this pretty-in-pink establishment.
Located on the tenth floor of Auckland’s Sudima Hotel, you will find views like none other. If you manage to score a coveted seat on the beautiful terrace, you will get an epic view of the sun-setting across Westhaven, the Waitemata Harbour and the Waitakere Ranges.
The interior is dreamy and incredibly pink, with soft hues and pops of pastel that earns its name, Sunset Bar. The chic décor pays tribute to the ‘70s in the best way possible with curved ceiling details, textured stone walls and a swoon-worthy colour palette. We expect this beautiful spot to feature in many ‘gram shots; it is seriously stunning.
Sunset Bar is the creative efforts of countless hospitality legends like Andrew Glenn (founder of Oyster Inn), Dana Johnston (founder of Pineapple on Parnell) and Mikey Ball (cocktail extraordinaire at Paris Butter). With this many big names, it comes as no surprise that this new establishment is raising the bar of expectation.
The cuisine is heavenly, taking inspiration from the streets of Mumbai, and reinterpreted with global flavours and seasonal produce. The tapa-style menu is perfect for sharing and allows guests to experience new flavours and spices.
The sunset koftas are sure to be a hit, pairing whipped garlic toum with white onion and parsley salad. We cannot wait to get our hands on the crunchetta salad with tangy mango chutney, sour yoghurt and crispy onion. Other stand-out dishes include fried chicken, lamb skewers and sunset sliders.
Sunset Bar sports a show-stopping line-up of local and international wines, New Zealand beers and an extensive list of carefully curated cocktails to tantalise your tastebuds. The collection of bespoke cocktails explores an array of flavours that match the cuisine perfectly.
The nitro chai brew is oh-so-delicious with Thomson Two Toned Whisky, homemade chai blend and nitro cold brew coffee. A top contender for the best cocktail is the Gavi berry Gimblett, pairing Roots Norwester Navy Gin with mandarin and cardamom sherbet and Pimento bitters. We will be dedicating our weekends to working our way through this insane cocktail list.
The wine menu reads like a sommelier’s wish list, featuring vino from around the globe. Indulge in the finest Champagne, rich full-bodied reds and blushing rosé. For those that prefer something tall and hoppy, you can find a cold beer with your name on it. Garage Project, Sawmill, Urbanaut and Deep Creek are just a few familiar faces on the menu.
Sunset Bar is guaranteed to be an after-work hit and weekend hot spot, the delectable bites and moreish cocktails will see us staying later than we probably should. Break out your dance moves for in-house DJ Cam Robertston, who has curated a disco-heavy line-up that is sure to get you on your feet.
Sunset Bar is open Thursday – Saturday, 4 pm – late. You’ll find it at 63-67 Nelson Street, Auckland CBD. There is nowhere we would rather be when the sun sets, pun intended!
