Shortly after, it was renamed Ponsonby, the suburb we know and love. Taking inspiration from Ponsonby’s origins, Dedwood Deli was born.
Dedwood Deli are sandwich specialists, connoisseurs of all things bread and fillings, experts in the art of sandwich creations. To put it simply, they are good at what they do. There are two kings of the sandwich kingdom; Adrian, the business mogul and dreamer, and Alex, the mastermind behind the swoon-worthy cuisine.
The legendary sandwiches originated in the Ponsonby location; due to the unrelenting support of Aucklanders, their second eatery has been opened. This time, heading further southeast to Penrose.
If you need a before-work pick me up, a delicious spot for lunch, or an after-work treat, Dedwood Deli has you covered.
The hot sandwiches easily captured the hearts of Aucklanders; the flavours are bold, fresh and mouth-wateringly divine. A few flavours you will find on the menu are the chimi steak, chipotle chicken, Korean pork belly, BBQ brisket, New York Reuben and the three-cheese portobello.
The chimi steak is a Dedwood speciality; the quintessential sammy is created with fresh cooked medium-rare sirloin steak, house-made chimichurri dressing, and loaded with a blend of 3-cheeses and a generous spread of Dedwood tomato chipotle relish.
Another crowd-favourite is the New York Reuben; Americans have always taken food to the next level, and this is one craze we can get behind. The classic sandwich combines in-house slow-cooked pastrami with the Dedwood 3-cheese blend, Swiss cheese, Sauerkraut, McClure’s sweet and spicy pickles and a homemade Russian dressing.
Vegetarians are just as spoiled with the three-cheese portobello sammy; this beauty is simply irresistible. The portobello mushrooms are loaded with blue cheese, cream cheese and parmesan cheese for a punchy and flavourful sammy. There is also a layer of Swiss cheese (the more cheese, the merrier), tomato relish and baby spinach. Every bite tastes like heaven, and although our stomachs are bursting at the seams, we cannot resist devouring the entire masterpiece.
Sandwiches are not the only delicious treat on the menu; there is also the brekky bap with crispy bacon, creamy eggs, black bean sofrito mix bursting with garlic and Dedwood chimichurri mayo. We cannot think of anything better to kick start our day than this beauty; it cures all hangovers and fuels the energy tank.
There are also oat bowls and carb-heavy sides; the latter includes tater-tots, naked waffle fries and loaded waffle fries with sirloin, chimichurri, cheese and Dedwood sauce.
The oat bowls are a guilt-free, flavourful option that act as the perfect pick-me-up snack. The plumbus is tangy, fresh and nutty with plum compote, walnut crumble, almond butter and dried berries. The other option is the banana pudding, made with banana crumble, caramelised maple bananas, spiced crumble and cardamom custard.
Dedwood Deli is an incredible and innovative eatery that explores all things delicious, finding new and creative ways to pair unlikely ingredients; the outcome is explosive and moreish. The beauty of having another Dedwood Deli location to visit means that regardless of where you are in Auckland, you can always get your hands on the good stuff.
You can find Dedwood Deli’s second venue at 49a Station Road in Penrose.
