Breakfast is a meal of champions at Melbourne’s Holla Coffee Roasters, but there’s one dish we just can’t go past…
The waffled croissant might be more ‘gram worthy and the DIY smashed avocado might be a classic, but it’s the mixed forest mushrooms with runny poached eggs and whipped ricotta that we reckon is the must-try dish of the week.
Is that the full name?
Nope, it’s simply “Sautéed forest mushrooms” on the menu.
Where do you get it?
Holla Coffee Roasters, 284 Victoria St, Richmond VIC 3121
Why is it a winner?
Do you start everyday thinking today I will be healthier, today I will treat my body like a temple? But then you go out for breakfast or brunch and all your resolutions amount to nought? We have a solution: Holla’s Sautéed forest mushrooms. Not only are mushrooms rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and all the things that we wouldn’t bother with unless they were also delicious, but topped with poached eggs for protein and whipped ricotta for calcium this really is a breakfast for winners. And we haven’t even mentioned the power of greens from the salsa verde or the keep-you-full-longer ability of the hazelnut crumble. All of this on thick slices of multigrain toast, because breakfast without bread is just wrong. Holla describes this is “an over-sized multi-vitamin”. We couldn’t agree more, except to add it’s the tastiest multi-vitamin we’ve ever experienced.
Anything else to know?
Now that you’re all virtuous from eating your mushrooms, you can get into Holla’s bottomless brunches which come with arguably Melbourne’s favourite cocktail, the espresso martini. After all, everything in moderation!
