Legendary actor Mark Wahlberg has made a name for himself through countless amazing roles on the big screen.
However, that is not all he is known for, he has also stolen the hearts of many in the culinary scene. The infamous Wahlburgers eatery is a burger empire; the family-run joint was created by Mark Wahlberg and his brothers, Donnie and Paul, the latter being head chef. The success of the burger restaurant in the States led to a TV show and multiple new locations around the globe, including its most recent endeavour, Auckland.
The highly anticipated debut is on the horizon, scheduled for later this year; you can expect to see this beauty on Princes Wharf (formerly Euro Bar and Restaurant).
On the menu, you will find a selection of delicious dishes; it is comfort food galore. Whether you are hitting the house-made hard shakes, getting your hands dirty with a juicy burger or you are taking the healthy route with Jenn’s chicken salad, there is something for everyone.
Let’s get down to what matters most; the burgers. The Fiesta has to be one of our favourites, it has a big personality and even more flavour. With two juicy beef patties, dusted with house-made southwestern spice rub, pepper jack cheese, fresh jalapenos, lettuce, house-made smoked pepper salsa, chipotle mayo and pickles – our mouth waters at the thought of this burger. Another irresistible option is the BBQ bacon burger, with a beef patty, white cheddar, bacon, fresh jalapenos, BBQ sauce and avocado spread.
The vegetarian option is incredible, named the impossible burger, and we can understand why; it is delicious, creative and moreish. The plant-based patty is paired with smoked cheddar, lettuce, caramelised onions, house-made chilli spiced tomatoes and Paul’s signature Wahl sauce. Even meat-eaters are lining up for this beauty.
Besides the burgers, the menu showcases mom’s favourites; this section is dedicated to the home-style meals we cannot resist. The house-made chilli is an American classic with cheese and spice, and everything nice. The bacon mac ‘n cheese is a crowd-pleaser, the penne is doused with bacon, three types of cheese, including a house-made garlic Parmesan, and then there is another layer of crispy Panko breadcrumbs.
For those who like things leafy and green, the salad selection is delicious, fresh and exciting. The Wahlberg’s have injected creativity into every section of their menu. While you can stick to the classic Caesar, we recommend the salmon and street corn salad, which pairs seared salmon with mixed greens, roasted corn, tomatoes, and cotija, dressed with honey-lime ranch and garnished with crispy tortillas.
We spend a lot of our time lovingly perusing the Wahlcoctions and boozy shakes, from strawberry jalapeno margaritas to spiked cherry colas and maple espresso martinis. You can’t go wrong. For those with an insatiable sweet tooth, we would like to introduce the mud pie hard shake; made with coffee ice cream, Pinnacle Vanilla Vodka, Créme de Cocoa, Kahlua, Vanilla frosting and crushed Oreos. It tastes even better than it sounds.
We cannot guarantee that all the American favourites will make it to our shores, however, we can whole-heartedly say, whatever Wahlburgers has in store; you will not want to miss out.
There is no set date for the arrival of the Wahlburgers Franchise, so keep your eyes peeled for more information. We are eagerly awaiting right beside you!
