Takk, meaning ‘thanks’ in Danish is an independent coffee company with locations in the Northern Quarter, the Hatch complex on Oxford Road and on the University of Manchester Campus, by the new Business Alliance School. All three are in very cool locations and are quite niche, feeding customers an Icelandic vibe. Takk was created to give the community a friendly space to come and visit, where you can express yourself and talk about ideas with likeminded individuals. Their coffee is from El Salvador, their bread from Barbakan in Chorlton and their cake from Silver Needles in Didsbury.

This coffee house has a very snuggly and modern look to it, making Northerners feel right at home. They serve 100% naturally processed Kenya Othaya Chinga coffee. In addition they rotate guest espressos, so there is always plenty of coffee choices. On the menu they have plenty of sandwiches and breakfast options as well to accompany that glowing caffeine hit. But it’s their homemade soup and grilled cheese that you seriously need to consider because they are both perfect options for warming up.

This is an extremely friendly family-run business, located in Levenshulme, but they also have another two cafés by the same name in Ancoats and Marble Street. Dish Cult discovered this place on a typically wet and cold Mancunian day. We were searching for a while for a cosy café to get some warm food and drinks from and luckily stumbled across Trove. They have lovely fresh coffee; they make their own sourdough and offer scrumptious pastries and cakes if that sweet tooth is calling. What’s not to like?

The Hip Hop Chip Shop
cuisinesFish and Chips

The Hip Hop Chip Shop brings style and a new brand to the traditional British dish of fish and chips. Located in Ancoats (however you can also hire out or find their van in and around Manchester), they provide scrumptious street food in a warm-hearted environment, surrounded by vintage music posters. They offer plenty of different takes on fish and chips and serve vegan and vegetarian options as well. So, come here for a warm and delightful lunch. Oh and make sure to grab a Magic Rock beer (from Huddersfield) to go with your meal!

The Didsbury can be found in a beautiful location, near the lovely Fletcher Moss Park. It is very much a traditional British pub, with a very cosy and homely feel inside, however they also have plenty of space to sit outside when the sun is shining down on Manchester! If you want traditional fish and chips or a heart-warming pub lunch, then why not come down to Didsbury, have a walk around Fletcher Moss Park and then grab some food and a pint by a fireplace in The Didsbury. You can’t get any cosier than that.
