Where to go for sandwiches in Manchester
Who doesn’t love a good sandwich? We all love them because you can put any ingredients in between two slices of bread. The type of bread, whether you grill it or even the way you slice it, shapes the sandwich. There are loads of different types of sandwiches across the world, from open ones to toasties. Yet despite the almost unlimited number of sandwiches that are possible to make, creating one is easy and simple. That’s the beauty of it. Perfect for lunch and always goes well with lots of sides, from crisps to coleslaw and salad. From delis to sandwich shops and afternoon tea, here we’ll cover some of Manchester’s best establishments for a superb sandwich!
A cafe and delicatessen, Katsouris Deli is a decade old place located in Deansgate. It’s safe to say that if you want plenty of choice and don’t want to be disappointed in your sandwich, then you should go here. Firstly, there’s a range of breakfast sandwiches, from bacon and sausage to the Aphrodite special, which is made with grilled halloumi and smoked ham and tomato. Aside from breakfast sandwiches, there are lots of others to choose from which are all freshly prepared. The sandwiches are made using ciabatta bread and are toasted to perfection. From the Italian special to the club sandwich and the goat, there are many classic and creative options to choose from here. The famous spicy peri peri chicken is also certainly worth tasting. A word of warning, a half sandwich at Katsouris Deli is still large!
Opening in 2017 on Oldham Street, located in the heart of the bustling Northern Quarter, Fress is a specialist in comfort food. This local, independent, family-run business wants to make a difference to its local community and provide customers with a pleasant experience. Fress makes the list of places to go to for an amazing sandwich because of the creativity and care put in the craftmanship. Two stand outs for us, the first being the bang bang waffle sandwich. This is made with honey mayo bang bang cornflake chicken, avocado and smoked cheese in a waffle style sandwich. It comes with either coleslaw or skin on fries. Delicious. The sticky tofu fights the bang bang for top sandwich at Fress. Created on toasted ciabatta and loaded with sweet chilli deep fried tofu, rocket, cucumber, honey-made mayo and onion rings. In addition, there’s also afternoon tea for £20 per person and here of course, you can enjoy more delicious sandwiches with lots of tea and cake.
Fat Pat’s a leader and game changer in the sandwich world. Situated on Portland Street in the city centre, Fat Pat’s is an open window and kerbside pickup sandwich bar. Fat Pat’s knows how to make a good sarnie. All the sandwiches come in a fresh eight-inch milk roll, but the type of bread changes some days. There’s the gorgeous hot honey fried chicken sub, which comes with hot honey, banana pickles, buttermilk ranch, house Nashville spice blend, lettuce, tomatoes, hot sauce, oregano and, of course, lots of chicken! The best vegan sandwich is the eggplant muffuletta, which consists of panko eggplant, pesto, mozzarella, artichoke, marinated peppers, rocket, olive tapenade, parm, sun-dried tomatoes, sweet balsamic and fresh herbs. As you can likely tell, the sandwiches are made with lots of thought and care to provide you with joy and a full stomach.
For over 20 years, Rustica has been serving incredible sandwiches in the Northern Quarter. There’s a varied and delicious range of hot sandwiches, from the Moroccan (made with lamb or chicken and houmous and mint yogurt dressing) to the brie, ham and grape and the very special, award-winning Milano sandwich (chicken, bacon, pesto, garlic and mayo). There are also a bunch of vegetarian options, such as the oregano roasted vegetables and feta, and the vegetarian version of the Milano. This high-quality, value for money and very popular sandwich shop is a perfect lunch stop if you are in the area.
