Spotlight on the Daisy Green group in London
The Daisy Green Collection brings relaxed and buzzing Australian food and coffee culture to London. Through individually designed cafes and restaurants, the team creates iconic spaces that become local destinations and meeting points for surrounding residents, workers and visitors. They’ve already got the Darcie & May Green barges moored up on the canal in Paddington and now the Aussie restaurant group is taking to the water once again with its latest opening, Peggy Jean.
Restoration
The Jesus College Boat Race Barge has been restored by the Daisy Green group to house the new floating restaurant, which’ll have 120 covers across the inside of the barge and the open-air area on the pontoon, plus uninterrupted views of the river and Richmond Bridge.
The food
Daisy Green has a renowned rep for its brunches, so guests at Peggy Jean can expect much of the same. During the day Peggy Jean will dish up bottomless brunches, including the likes of the very fancy bacon roll, award-winning banana bread sandwich, and Golden Gaytime Buttermilk Pancakes.
In the evenings, there’ll be BBQ meats from HG Walter, sustainably sourced seafood cooked over open fire, and Neapolitan-style pizzas (like Vegemite and cheese, hot sausage and jalapeño hot sauce, and ham, BBQ tomatoes, egg and pink pickled onion) coming from two bespoke Gozney ovens nicknamed Peggy and Jean (of course).
All these delicious dishes will be served alongside New World wines and local craft beers.
Sisters
Peggy Jean’s sister barge, Darcie & May Green is situated directly outside Paddington Station on the Grand Union Canal. Here you’ll find floating pieces of art, designed exclusively by the ‘godfather’ of British pop art, Sir Peter Blake.
May Green opens from the early hours of the morning, serving up perfectly executed flat whites and banana bread into the late hours of the evening, when it comes to life as a buzzing bar with nine local craft beers on tap and live music.
Darcie Green provides the perfect setting for canal side dining, serving Aussie brunch, healthy lunch and relaxing dinners. With an Antipodean-inspired menu, awarded four stars by TimeOut, dishes are bold, fresh and comforting.
Background
The Collection was founded by Prue Freeman and Tom Onions in 2012. The duo started the business on the streets as a founding member of street food collective KERB with two vintage ice cream vans (Pinky Green and Wander Green) and three tricycles.
Over the last decade the business has grown organically to include an exciting mix of cafes, restaurants, secret underground gardens, canal boats and shipping containers. Each site is an adventure and a story carefully curated for its unique audience.
Peggy Jean opens today (27th July 2022) on Richmond Riverside, London, TW9 1TH.
