When there’s so much to choose from, picking a restaurant for Mother’s Day can become a stressful deal. We’ve taken to our Insiders, i.e. our New Zealand Editor, Grace Noles, along with Auckland Food bloggers and influencers, Amy Lin and Amy Kapadia, to ask them where they go for Mother’s Day. After all, food explorers happily do the work for us!

Say hi to Grace Noles, our NZ Editor

A social butterfly and evidently a frequenter of the Auckland food scene, our NZ Editor, Grace Noles shares the top 3 spots that her mum loves to visit.

1. Sugar at Chelsea Bay – 100 Colonial Road, Chatswood, Auckland

I love taking my Mum to Sugar at Chelsea Bay for the views of the city. It’s nice to see Auckland from the other side of the bridge and Sugar is so secluded from the hustle and bustle, the food is unreal and always comes out looking as pretty as possible.

2. Woolfy’s – 5 Cryers Road, East Tāmaki, Auckland

Woolfy’s is a local and one of my Mum’s favourites. The café is cosy and the menu heavily features ‘superfoods’ which she is a fan of. Her favourite is the matcha and beetroot lattes from Woolfy’s, with the blueberry hotcakes being a close second.

3. iTi, Tarangi – 421 Titirangi Road, Titirangi, Auckland

To mix it up and try somewhere new, I would love to take my Mum to iTi in Titirangi. The eatery sits in the tree tops and is surrounded by native bush which I know she would love, with the perfect sharing plates so we all get to try a little bit of everything.

Amy is a passionate foodie, documenting her culinary adventures in Auckland and beyond, on her insta-blog @fascinatingfoodiesdiary. We asked Amy to share her top 3 Mother’s Day picks with us and here’s what she came up with:

1. Yum Cha Restaurant – 286 Mount Wellington Highway, Mount Wellington, Auckland.

Yum cha for Mother’s Day is always a good idea. Love the feeling of the whole family gathered around the table to celebrate mum with some delicious dim sum. My mum really enjoys the golden black egg lava buns and custard egg tarts. I really like how this place has a nice layout with modern decor!

2. Slowlane Cafe – 604 Great South Road, Ellerslie, Auckland.

If you're looking for a brunch spot this Sunday, why not check out Slowlane Cafe? I felt their interior design is outstanding and gave me a relaxing vibe. They serve up amazing coffee and brunch food. If your mum enjoys sweet treats, she would definitely need to try their peanut butter caramel. It’s like a snickers bar, but better! 😍

3. Cable Bay Vineyard – 12 Nick Johnstone Drive, Oneroa, Auckland.

Waiheke Island for Mother’s Day would be a big one for me. This place offers a beautiful lunch spot with amazing views. I'd sip on some wine and enjoy some delicious food with Mum. Highly recommend the Te Matuku oysters and salmon crudo, they were so fresh! Did I mention their presentation is on point 👌🏼

1. Archie’s Pizzeria – 63 Davis Crescent, Newmarket, Auckland

When they say ‘best wood-fired pizza’ (in Auckland) they’re not lying. I’ve been to Archie’s pizzeria multiple times and all the times I’ve been there, the quality has consistently remained high. My usual go to is the Al Salmone $27.50 and their Pene Polo Fumigato $29.50 (This pasta is available only for dinner) The pizzas have a thin base and generous amounts of toppings. The pasta has a unique but familiar taste. One of the best things about this place is that you can ask them for balsamic sauce that you can drizzle on top of the pizzas or pastas which enhances the flavour so much more. It would make any mama say deliziozo (delicious!). They’re a family run business located in Newmarket. They’re usually always full at night so if you plan on going in a group, I suggest you make reservations.

2. Marina Cantina – 1 Ara-Tai Road, Half Moon Bay, Auckland

Located on the marina at Half moon bay, this place not only has mouth-watering Mexican food, but the interiors are super cute with loads of murals painted on the walls. It's a perfect place to take your mum, you can make it an outing where you could use the afternoon to grab some lunch and afterwards, take a leisurely stroll on the pier. The jalapenÞo chicken is a must try! We also ordered the popcorn chicken and shrimp tacos along with the pulled pork quesadillas and the nachos.

3. Rombus – 35 Cook Street, Howick, Auckland

When I was younger if my mum was busy, you can bet we’d be eating brinner ie- breakfast food for dinner. That often contained some form of eggs, bread and bacon. This was the reason, Rombus a café made it on the list of one of my favourite restaurants to take mum to. The memories associated with breakfast food, really take me back in time. What I like about this café is that they have managed to put a spin on some of the original breakfast items. The chilli jam stack is quite an unusual take on eggs on toast, that seems to work oh so well. It comes with a poached egg, some bacon, aioli, salad, feta and their famous in-house chilli jam. The chilli jam is a mix of sweet and savoury and just adds so much to a basic egg on toast. I would recommend this if you haven’t already tried it. The creamy mushrooms are also delicious especially for this upcoming winter season.

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, don’t forget to book your favourite spot on Dish Cult and treat mum the way she deserves!
