It's the weekend and Happy Hour is on the horizon!

Seeing as we can’t wander down to the local at knock-off time for a beverage, it’s up to us to get creative and become the at-home mixologist we’ve always dreamed of being.

Being one of the most popular (and boujee) cocktails on most drink lists in bars, the Espresso Martini is a cult-favourite for both its boozy and caffeine hit – getting you right where you need to be on a night out. However, usually made with a real shot of espresso from an espresso machine, it’s a hard one to replicate at home without all the needed equipment – until now. Here’s our take on a homemade Espresso-less Espresso Martini.

Espresso Martini (Without The Espresso)
What you'll need
  • Vodka (any brand will do)
  • Ground coffee (or instant for an even easier cocktail)
  • Coffee liqueur (Kahlua is our go to)
  • Boiling water (this one's self explanatory, we hope)
  • Getting started
  • Start off with 2 teaspoons of ground or instant coffee and mix it into 40ml of boiling water. If using instant – just stir as normal, if ground – filter as normal. Steep it for longer if you're looking for an extra strong coffee-flavour.
  • Once prepared, pour the coffee into a cocktail shaker (or any kind of shaker you may have). Wait for it to cool to room temperature.
  • Add 1 shot of coffee liqueur and 1 shot of your vodka to the coffee and shake!
  • Using a sieve, strain your cocktail mixture into your fanciest cocktail glass before topping with a dusting of instant coffee, chocolate powder, or a few coffee beans to replicate the real deal.
  • Enjoy, responsibly!
