The Gold Coast offers some of the most indulgent and diverse high teas in the country. From hinterland hide-aways to beach front views, from English scones to Aussie pumpkin blues, there’s a high tea for everyone on the Goldie.

So let’s put aside the phones and outside world and concentrate on celebrating: whether it’s a personal one with family or a celebration with friends… let’s all eat more cake.

Videre Restaurant
cuisinesHigh tea

Videre Restaurant’s high teas are all about the view and the food, with a menu that has a distinctive Aussie slant.

The signature high tea has “unlimited” Tea Drop tea and French press coffee. You can add a glass of sparkling or champagne or, if the occasion warrants it, unlimited sparkling.

But let’s be honest, while a glass of bubbles is nice, high tea is all about the food and Videre offers that in abundance.

Savouries include More Bay fritters, cauliflower cheese pie with bush tomato relish and sourdough crumpets.

Of course there are scones: lemonade, blue pumpkin, and golden raisin. And the scones come with rhubarb and cinnamon myrtle jam – what Aussie doesn’t love rhubarb jam – on scones – with local double cream?

We’re not finished yet: Gold wattle seed opera cake, lavender coconut macarons, desert lime meringue pie, and more.

High teas are only available on the weekends between 10am and 2pm.

Palm Court
cuisinesHigh tea

It doesn’t get more British than the Langham Hotel’s Palm Court.

From 2pm to 5pm, the Palm Court is the place to settle in and enjoy the view from the glorious floor-to-ceiling windows or you can opt for an outdoor seating.

Every day, Palm Court serves the best in sparkling wines and champagnes with its in-house delicacies.

Highlights of the savoury selection include spanner crab, mango and shrimp caviar gougeres, and walnut and parmesan shortbread with duck egg. Sweet tooths (teeth?) will love the Christmas tree which has pistachio moelleux, and peach and apricot compote topped with vanilla bean cream. And there’s so much more… including scones with ‘velvet’ cream, lemon curd and preserves.

High tea at the Langham is truly sublime.

Dish Cult’s top pick: Weekday festive afternoon tea (from December 1, $109 pp)
