Commercial Bay has a vast selection of bars, restaurants and eateries that’s sure to delight all those that visit.
A new resident is joining the block, and we couldn’t be happier! We’d like to introduce Green Door Pizza.
Many of you will be familiar with Green Door Pizza and the delicious creations that come out of its kitchen. The authentic New York-inspired pizzeria earned its stellar reputation as a pop-up pick-up pizza joint providing wholesome comfort during alert level 3. Originally, it set up shop in The Candy Shop in New Market, and received a warm reception from Aucklanders.
Green Door Pizza is hard to miss with its adorable green and white pinstripe awning and the red and white checker counter. If you still can’t find the pizzeria, we suggest letting your nose take the lead and follow the mouth-watering smell of freshly cooked pizza.
The wood-fire delicacies are lovingly kneaded by hand, lathered in house-made marinara sauce, topped with fresh ingredients and all of our favourite flavours, before it is cooked to perfection. The base is chewy yet crisp, the ideal balance with a distinctive charred taste that compliments the dish.
Green Door Pizza is the way to our hearts. It was love at first bite. If you love pizza as much as we do, you need to visit the pizzeria.
The menu is beyond indulgent and makes choosing a pizza insanely difficult; we want everything we see. Peruse a range of classics from the original Margherita, pepperoni, and meatlovers, as well as the controversial Hawaiian pizza with pickled pineapple. There’s also a variety of gourmet goodies and vegetarian-friendly pizza pies.
Choose between a slice of heaven or the whole shebang, we recommend treating yourself to a full-sized pizza; they are that incredibly moreish, one slice will not be enough! The pizzas are all 16”, and if you are torn between two options, you can choose to go half and half.
For the die-hard carnivores, the meat lovers pizza is packed with flavour and tastes divine with salami, smoked pancetta, pepperoni, nduja, shallots, hot honey and pickled chilli. Otherwise, the pepperoni pizza is a sure win; the simple flavours are crowd-pleasers.
For those with diverse taste buds, nothing beats the anchovy pizza with manzanilla olives, artichoke and gremolata.
The vegetarian-friendly options are divine, especially the melanzane pizza with eggplant, cavolo nero, herbs, confit garlic and almond cream. There is also the ricotta and zucchini pizza and a mushroom pizza with gruyere, vincotto, rosemary and red onions.
The side dishes are delicious and make a great addition to the meal. There is garlic pizza bread, tater tots, chicken tenders and, a personal favourite, the mozzarella sticks with house-made marinara sauce.
For a healthier pick, opt for the caprese salad with mozzarella, basil, tomatoes and balsamic sauce. Or, the bright green salad with cucumber, pickled onion and sumac. These are great options for a lighter side to balance out your pizza. Salads reduce any potential guilt factors from devouring a pizza all by yourself.
Don’t forget to hydrate; we can’t think of a better companion for our cheesy slice of heaven than a beautiful glass of vino.
The lively atmosphere invites visitors to stay awhile, relax, and catch up with friends. We love this spot for lazy weeknights and food-focused weekends with our favourite people. Green Door Pizza Commercial Bay is open 7 days a week, 11.30am – 9pm.
