Forget two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun - Brisbane’s burgers are so much better than that!
From a pecan wood smoked brisket burger to a Nashville hot chicken version, you’ll find variety, flavour and all sorts of hand-held deliciousness in this list of Brisbane’s best burgers.
Yeee haw! Buffalo Bar brings US grub to Brissie and it’s certainly the place to grab a burger. Especially if you like some sports and beers on the side.
What’s your burger passion? Classic cheeseburger? Buffalo fried chicken with chipotle mayo? Slow cooked brisket with onion rings? Perhaps it’s an earthy mushroom burger with BBQ sauce? There’s plenty to pick from at the Buffalo Bar.
Whichever one you choose, it will be stacked high with tasty additions such as onion rings, lettuce and tomato.
Of course the usual suspects are also available if you pass on the burger side of things – wings, parmies, fish ‘n chips too. But make sure you book ahead, it gets busy.
Dish Cult’s top pick: Smoked carnitas pulled pork burger with slaw and pickles served with white BBQ sauce ($21)
You gotta admire Ze Pickle’s commitment to curating the best burgers in Brissie. From the Chee-ze, with its maple smoked bacon and American cheese, to the Ya mum, which has Ze Pickle’s signature IPA beer cheeze sauce, there’s something for everyone.
If you really want to go next level, challenge your burger buddy to the STFU – four beef patties, triple bacon, fried chicken, served between 3 grilled cheese sandwiches (!) and topped with fries – yes it’s the stack dreams (or nightmares) are made of. We hazard a guess it’s made for challenges and really late nights. See you there!
Dish Cult’s top pick: Pecan wood smoked brisket burger ($25)
It’s all about classic burgers done with top quality ingredients at Brisbane burger hangout Fritzenberger.
We think the stand out items are the buttermilk chicken burger, the Nashville hot chicken burger (and if you’ve ever been to Nashville you’ll get the “hot”), and the mushroom schnitzel burger – panko crumbs plus Swiss cheese plus portobello mushrooms. You know you want one.
Don’t forget the wonderful sides too: mac n cheese balls, plenty of wings and the house speciality, loaded frites. Fritzen has a special salt – it’s the taste of a Sunday roast chicken sprinkled on your fries, and it is as good as that sounds.
Oh, the joint gets jumping, so book ahead or be prepared to wait in line.
Dish Cult’s top pick: Chicken pickle burger ($13.80)
Hashtag doubles down on its burgers – not only are they massive, they’re uber tasty.
The I’m a vego burger offers a beetroot patty plus onion, tomato relish and tzatziki sauce. It’s difficult to bypass the Crazy Jane though, with its s-mac ‘n cheese patty smothered in honey mao, plus the fixins’ of course. Unless your heart yearns for a Morning Wood – beefy patties, onion rings and bacon smothered with cheese sauce.
You should of course finish with a waffle. As this story is all about burgers, all we will say is salted caramel homemade buttermilk waffles. Loaded with… well, you’ll just have to order one to find out.
Dish Cult’s top pick: Double Down – two patties, slices of cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato smothered in blue cheese sauce ($17)
Take Brooklyn cool and cross it with relaxed Aussie style and you’ll have handcrafted burger bar and cocktail hangout Brooklyn Depot.
Your can go for a classic burger or you can go epic! The epic-ness comes from the humongous size. The Smash up, for example, has two patties, two southern fried chicken thighs, a pile of hickory smoked bacon and is covered in chipotle mayo. The Dubya is a BBQ brisket burger with pickles, onion rings and honey mustard mayo. Get why they’re epic?
There are plenty of other offerings too. We particularly like the cornflake crusted chicken burger. It’s what cornflakes were made for, when you think about it. And there’s a great selection of cocktails, beers and drinks to make all that burger eating lots of fun.
Dish Cult’s top pick: The Queenslander – beef patty, American cheese, hickory smoked bacon, egg, beetroot, lettuce and aioli ($17.95)
