Malaysian food in London

Combining flavours of undeniable favourites, Malaysian food isn’t short of fabulous taste and London certainly isn’t short of fabulous Malaysian restaurants. Here are some of our favourites at Dish Cult, ranging from upscale experiences to quick and easy spots.

Low maintenance, amped-up heat (if that’s what you like), and seriously good flavours. That’s what you’re getting at Laksamania, no questions asked. Located on Newman Street in Fitzrovia, Laksamania serves tasty sharing plates, to-die-for bao buns, and so much more. The star of the show here is no secret – the Laska noodles are hearty and packed with authentic flavours. Whether you’re vegan or a carnivore at heart, Laksamania has a bit of everything (and don’t worry, it can accommodate to heat-lovers and heat-haters alike).

Open seven days a week, this Euston gem is available every day for dine-in or takeaway – and we’re thankful for it. Check out this place for some authentic Malaysian street food and stay for the traditional pull tea (served hot or cold) and the absolutely unmatched Kopi Putih (white coffee with condensed milk. How could you say no to this one?). And if you don’t hail from Euston, fear not. Roti King has a sister shop in Victoria called Gopal’s Corner serving up Malaysian cuisine that’s just as heavenly.

The Spice Lab

Open from 12pm every day is Mercato Mayfair, and inside Mercato Mayfair is a small slice of heaven; it goes by the name of The Spice Lab. As the market keeps its high spirits by allowing its customers to dine freely, it maintains a walk-in-only policy. But that only makes the laid back environment more enjoyable. The Spice Lab keeps its menu short and sweet because the Nesi Lemak is all we really need. The country’s main dish is perfectly delicious and satisfying any time of day, so whether you’re popping in for lunch, grabbing a post-work bite or enjoying a relaxing Sunday, stop into The Spice Lab.

If Nesi Lemak is your meal of choice and you want to step it up a notch, make your booking for Laxsa Soho. In addition to the traditional chicken curry and sambal sauce, you can get your classic favourite with either lobster or crispy chicken. But if you’re keeping it light, Laxsa has a variety of small plates and salads to choose from as well. It’s also located on Old Compton Street, so if you’re looking to make Laxsa the first stop of many, you’re in luck.

Located in the heart of Chinatown, this is the perfect spot to wander on in from a nice relaxing walk or add to your list of must-try Asian cuisine. The menu is extensive, making this the perfect place to pop in if you’re with a big group (or picky eaters) because C & R has something for everyone. Make your way over any day of the week except Monday (write that down), as it’s busy recharging for the week to come back in hot when its week starts on Tuesday.

Originally a Richmond-based venue, Rock & Rose has graciously extended with a new location situated on Chiswick High Road. And it’s brought all of its iconic flavours with it. Serving up imaginative takes on Southeast Asian fusion, Rock & Rose offers a vegan menu alongside its can’t-miss mains and Sunday roast. Be sure to try the lamb shank Massaman, slow-cooked to perfection with Malaysian spices. And the best part: the sweets. If the sun’s out, then kick off with the summery flavours the dessert menu has to offer. Your biggest worries at Rock & Rose will be whether to choose the sherry trifle or the lemon cheesecake with lavender biscuit, we promise.
