Spotlight on Uva in London

Serving a menu of understated and traditional Portuguese inspired tapas (petiscos in the local dialect), Uva in Peckham has only been around since 2021 but is already south east London’s go-to foodie destination for bustling tapas evenings.

Portugal in Peckham

Uva is the latest endeavour of a family-run business whose journey began over seven years ago, with Stella’s Portuguese Grill & Fish Bar, in Twickenham, West London.

Whether you’re familiar with Portuguese cuisine or not, Uva is a destination Petiscos/Tapas and Wine Bar, serving a menu of gorgeous Portuguese inspired tapas (otherwise know as petiscos) alongside a fine-tuned selection of Portuguese wine, hand-selected local craft beers and a custom created Mediterranean cocktail menu.

Whether you fancy the full culinary experience or just a few glasses of vinho with some friends, Uva welcomes its diners whatever the occasion.

Lisbon and beyond

The petiscos at Uva have been inspired from Lisbon and surrounding areas. Offering weekly changing menus, these modern Portuguese small plates showcase the best of land, sea and earth.

From the land (terra), there are some mouthwatering selections including Espetada De Bife – 28-day dry-aged skewer of ribeye beef with charred peppers, bay leaf, tomato and onion glazed in garlic butter and a Portuguese style salsa verde.

From the sea (oceano), look no further than Bacalhau – Portugal’s famous salt cured cod with sautéed onion, garlic and bay leaf served on a base of boiled egg and potato.

And from the earth (o solo – ideal for vegans), we love the Croquettes – oven baked croquettes of lightly spiced sautéed spinach, oats and breadcrumbs served with a toasted almond relish.

There’s also the option of Na Pedra, which allows you the chance to cook for yourself at the table on a volcanic hot stone! You can select from Bife – sizzling Scotch prime ribeye beef served with a rich garlic herb butter and a Portuguese style salsa verde – and Atum – sizzling line caught tuna loin served with a spicy picante sauce and a Portuguese style salsa verde.

Wine list

Ava’s selection of wines have been hand-picked from wineries across Portugal and have been sorted by region. Tasting notes have been derived through vigorous tastings with professional sommeliers and provided alongside each wine.

Boasting reds and whites from Lisbon, Douro and Alentejo, to sparkling wines from the Beiras as well as vinho verde and ports.

Brunch

On the weekends (Fri-Sun lunchtimes), Uva offers an outstanding brunch menu.

There are some exquisite options to choose from, each providing something slightly different to your usual brunch dishes. Try the Abacate – smashed avocado and fried chickpeas with a fermented red onion and spiced chilli dukkha served on sourdough, or the Portuguese Baked Eggs – a slow cooked spicy tomato and pea shakshuka style
dish with baked eggs and sourdough. Yum.
