Participating in Dry July is an excellent opportunity to give your liver a break and to help support amazing charities that take care of our fellow kiwis.
This year the donations will go towards the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Pinc and Steel and Look Good Feel Better – all fantastic causes, so get dry this July and help take care of our most vulnerable. To read more on Dry July, head over to their official site.
From the creators of The Parasol and Swing Company comes The Broken Lantern, a Ponsonby hot-spot that specialises in cocktails, mocktails and morsels that delight the taste buds. On its teetotaler’s list are three expertly crafted mocktails that take on fruity, sweet and sour twists.
For those with an adventurous palette, try the prickly customer; with grilled pineapple, raisins, vinegar, citrus, apple and ginger beer. For the sweet tooth in the group, opt for the strawberry fields mocktail with strawberry, pomegranate, vanilla, orange blossom and tonic. Last but not least, the peach no-jito; a refreshing drop that pairs peach with grapefruit, mint, lime and soda.
Bedford Soda and Liquor never fails to amaze with its creative and tasty concoctions. The range of sodas and shakes will easily carry you through Dry July without any drink envy. The famous handcrafted sodas are divine with flavours to suit every palate; there is a passion fruit soda, gold kiwifruit, mango, old-fashioned lemonade and peach iced tea.
The shake section ranges from fruity to sweet to a dash of bitterness with the likes of espresso ice cream shakes. There is also Oreo, vanilla and raspberry, among others. If you simply miss the taste of beer, fear not, Bedford Soda has the Mac’s Stunt Double 0% available to quench your thirst.
Make Dry July a tropical event by visiting The Good Luck Coconut; this is one of our favourite spots for flavourful cocktails and mocktails, right on the water. Every option on the list is delightful and expands our non-alcoholic horizons.
A crowd-pleaser is the fresh and fruity GLC iced tea, pairing homemade mango iced tea with lemon soda. A fragrant and herb centred option is the virgin salted grapefruit and sage quencher, or go for the tangy virgin pineapple and cardamom cooler with ginger ale. You can also get your hands on soft drinks, juices and a non-alcoholic beer (Peroni Libera).
There is nowhere we would rather be during Dry July than at Cassia; the mocktails are masterpieces that redefine the meaning of mocktails. Expertly exploring the versatility of Seedlip non-alcoholic gin, Cassia creates beauties like the kokum fizz with Seedlip, house-made kokum shrub, lime and mint.
If you prefer a beverage without Seedlip, the tropical fizz is a unique twist on a sour; with blood orange, mango, passionfruit, lemon and egg white. The smooth and silky texture perfectly captures that of a classic sour cocktail. Other options include the jamfal highball with spiced guava and the bitter ananas with house-made spiced pineapple.
