If anything, their endless lines signal their endless popularity, with new brick-and-mortar locations popping up around all areas of Auckland, serving up authentic, Chinese hand-pulled noodles and dumplings that everyone loves.
Every food blogger has been here. It’s not a hole-in-the-wall but fully-fledged chain store around Auckland, yet not much has changed since its original opening in 2009 at Dominion Road. My first time at Eden Noodles was with my other foodie friend—a warm bowl of Dan Dan noodles after a whole day of university classes seemed like a much needed soul revival.
At that time of hospitality lockdowns, Eden Noodles was only doing takeaways. We watched the blurred, systematic hands of the chefs through its exposed kitchen as our orders got made, transferred into our doggy bags, then followed by a brief thanks. The bowls’ radiated spice, warmth, and authenticity as we enjoyed them while sitting on the grass. Flushed cheeks, the zing on our lips from their Sichuan peppercorns, contrasted greatly with the cold winds at Albert Park that day.
As cliché as it sounds, it really was a warm hug to me, much reminiscent of my childhood noodles in China. Their convenient locations are dispersed in the city centre, Albany, and Newmarket.
For its portions, every dish is around $12 or so, making it perfect for a quick, filling meal, and a staple food routine for my friends and me to grab a bowl whenever—a treat to myself when the rainy weather gets a little bit too much.
But make sure to order your bowls of goodness by phone, as it saves so much time and earns you that instant gratification when you go grab them. You can never go wrong with their famous Dan Dan noodles, or spicy dry pork and chive dumplings—and of course, pair them with a refreshing side of cucumber salad. Actually, you can never go wrong with the whole menu at Eden Noodles.
