Best places for doughnuts in Manchester
There are not many people who don’t enjoy a doughnut. Sure people might opt for ice cream, pancakes or cakes when it comes to satisfying sweet teeth, but there’s something special and perhaps even underrated about a doughnut. In order to help you find the very best of them in Manchester, we’ve come up with a list of our favourite places for doughnuts.
Bringing the incredible qualities and tastes from food in Barcelona, Tast Cuina Catalana has served delicious food since 2018 in the city centre of Manchester. Head chef Paco Perez brings the amazing tastes and flavours from Catalonia in a cosy, contemporary and stylishly minimalist aesthetic. There are three different parts to the establishment: the bar, a casual restaurant area and a fine dining room. Hear us out, as a starter it serves ‘duck’in donuts’, a play on ‘Dunkin’ Donuts’. This is a highly recommended dish and shows why the chef’s tastes and presentation have become worthy of a Michelin star. This gluten free dish contains foie gras with one doughnut having white chocolate as a coating and the other doughnut with raspberry powder on top of it. Inside is – as you probably guessed – duck and cream. Somehow it works and is absolutely gorgeous. It is worth going to this restaurant just to try the half sweet and half savoury ‘duck’in donuts’.
Located in the heart of the Northern Quarter on Tib Street, this establishment creates some of the finest doughnuts about in Manchester. Made with nutty bread instead of classic brioche, the doughnuts are deliciously unique and come in many different types. From the well-known, simply glazed doughnuts to raspberry jam, you’ll find all your favourite doughnuts here. But you should also look out for the weekly specials, which range from maple and blueberry-glazed doughnuts to rose, raspberry and pistachio, and lemon and elderflower, which is one of our favourites. An added bonus is, if it’s sunny you can sit outside and enjoy your doughnuts in the lovely sunshine at the Siop Shop.
La Bandera is a classy restaurant that brings classic and fresh Spanish cuisine to Manchester. A leading Spanish restaurant in not just Manchester, but the whole of the UK, the owners of this delightful establishment want to lead a new era of Spanish cuisine in the country. La Bandera is a spacious and bright eatery, renowned for its yellow booths. As we are focusing on doughnuts, we have to mention how unbelievably gorgeous they are here. Serving lots of desserts from banana cheesecake to the Spanish favourite churros, it is still the doughnuts that stand out. The mini Bunuelos de chocolate are Nutella doughnuts made with delicious hot chocolate sauce. They represent the quality of the whole restaurant and shows how scrumptious Spanish doughnuts are. If you love Spanish food and doughnuts especially, this is another fantastic place to dine at.
This relatively new establishment that specialises in doughnuts is to be found in Longsight, south of the city centre. Chinnywala serves the best doughnut boxes. For example, the special combo box has six hot and fresh doughnuts all served with white chocolate, Nutella and sugar, plus additional toppings. These topping can include Biscoff, Smarties, Aero Mint, Oreo and more. Other boxes include the plain sugar classic doughnuts and the deluxe chocolate ones. Lastly, there is the sweet galore box. This option includes doughnuts made in the same way as the combo box and the chocolate deluxe option, however the toppings are very sweet and totally out there! Ranging from sherbet, popping candy and marshmallows, to lots and lots of sprinkles. This makes Chinnywala one of finest places in Manchester to enjoy exceptional doughnuts.
