Ten seats, one table, and a unique dining experience, that’s how we would describe The Table restaurant. Pull up a seat at the breakfast bar style set-up and watch the chefs at work in the open-plan kitchen. The food here is spectacular and the size of the venue makes it an ideal space for a cosy dinner out.
They have been around since 1990 and are a firm favourite with the Edinburgh locals, and we believe once you’ve tried Howie’s you’ll feel the same way. The food and drink here aims to make the most of Scotland’s incredible natural larder. Whether it’s venison from their estate in Perth, or the mussels from the Scottish shores the food will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy.
“Oh the weather outside is frightful, but Mimi’s is so delightful”. It’s true, if you want to get away from the icy weather, then a hot drink and a wee cake from Mimi’s will sort you right out. An award-winning bakery-cafe located in the scenic Shore area of Leith, this place is cute and cosy with a bustling atmosphere. With two large windows sitting between the cafe and bakery, you can enjoy your food and drink while you watch the masters at work creating a delicious array of treats.
Next up on our list of cosy restaurants in Edinburgh we have Aizle, a modest suburban restaurant whose name means ‘ember’ or ‘spark’. You might need to venture slightly off the beaten track to find this one, but once you get there you’ll be happy you did. The venue is small with simple interiors and if you’re lucky enough to get a table by the window you’ll enjoy gorgeous views over Salisbury Crags.
Aiming to bring a real taste of Italy to Edinburgh, Chef Rosario has created something really special with Locanda de Gusti. Upon entering you feel like you’re in an Italian family kitchen where the atmosphere is bright and buzzing. You’ll feel all warm and fuzzy here and that’s not just because of the venue. The seafood here is cooked to perfection, inspired by authentic family recipes.
“Sonder: the realisation that each passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.” That’s one to ponder while you enjoy what’s on offer at Sonder. A relatively new addition to the Edinburgh scene this place aims to bring a modern dining experience to the city. We’d recommend heading here with friends after a day in the capital, as this is more of a sharing small plates kind of place.
