There’s nothing we love more than Asian fusion cuisine;
from noodles to soup, dumplings to bao buns and Bok choy to pad Thai – there’s a delicious dish for every palette and preference.
Nestled in the heart of Christchurch is a beautiful and luxurious Asian fusion restaurant, The Dish. With a menu dedicated to high quality, fresh food with heart and soul, it’s no surprise that this is a popular dinner destination. The Dish has incorporated herbs, spices and techniques from all across Asia to create its unique and delicious menu, with a strong influence of Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine. You’ll find something on the menu to suit every member of the family, from the house-made spring rolls to beef rendang wontons, wok-fried scallops and fish, to a bowl of fries and twice-cooked beef ribs.
Enjoy a culinary journey through Southeast Asian cuisine with stops in Korea and China. King of Snake has expertly crafted a delectable menu with unforgettable dishes that showcase the traditional flavours and cultural influences; this is the perfect spot to try something new. Kick the night off with a Kaffir lime sour cocktail, or opt for a nice cold pint of Asahi lager. Whet your appetite with the blade cut salmon with white miso and salmon caviar, or go straight for the prawn pad Thai with tofu and mung beans. End the night on a sweet note with the deep-fried organic banana ice cream with a drizzle of salted caramel sauce on top.
Table of Munchies, aka TOM, is a modern Asian fusion restaurant; this local boutique spot specialises in Bao buns and hearty ramen. TOM is open all day and well into the evening to make sure the people of Christchurch can satisfy their cravings. Reap the benefits of the tapa-style menu and try an array of smaller dishes, including the salmon sashimi, grilled teriyaki salmon in a donburi rice bowl, BBQ pork bao and TOM’s loaded pancake. Now, for the moment we’ve all been waiting for; the ramen. Every delicious bowl of ramen comes with sweet corn, wakame and spring onion and your choice of meat/poultry/alternative; roast duck, pork tonkotsu, spicy miso tantan and many more. As a palette cleanser, go for the refreshing Yuzu mojito cocktail with white rum, sparkling sake, yuzu and mint.
What’s more authentic than street food? Old Street Asian Hawker Food has one goal in mind; to introduce Kiwis to Southeast Asian culture through good, old fashioned street food. This Asian fusion cuisine has a Malay presence, noticeable in the spiciness, aromatic flavours, and rich taste of herbs and spices. Alongside this is a Chinese and Indian influence, which makes for an incredible variety of dishes and flavours. On the menu, you’ll find dishes like curry puffs and Thai fried fish cakes, chow mein and traditional Chinese stir fry. A personal favourite of ours has to be the Mee Goreng with chicken – this Indian-style spicy noodle dish is simply unbeatable.
For fast, delicious Asian fusion cuisine, head over to Sesame Sushi and Asian Fusion; this is our favourite spot for a quick bite to eat. The menu has everything you could have hoped and dreamed for. Have a light lunch with some Katsu crispy chicken and avocado sushi or experiment with new flavours and introduce your tastebuds to a grilled Unagi eel bento box. If you have a more reserved palette, try the karaage fried chicken salad with a side of vegetarian Vietnamese spring rolls. If you’re hosting a party or work lunch, Sesame’s catering platters can’t be missed and always go down a treat.
