Burger Geek has finally set up shop in little old Grey Lynn, serving the ultimate double smash burgers that made its reputation amongst the people of Auckland.
We are beyond excited about this new spot!
If you’re new to Burger Geek, then prepare for an experience like no other. Some would say these are the best burgers in town, and we agree. Cofounders Pene and Peter Barton took on the challenge to reinvigorated Auckland’s love of burgers by creating outstanding yet simple burgers that haunt our dreams. Burger Geek has satisfied Aucklanders for five years with its location in Eden Terrace.
This spot quickly gained a cult following due to Burger Geek’s delectable double patty burgers and the quirky names bestowed upon them; every burger is named after a game or a pop culture reference. There is also a range of side dishes available that will knock your socks off.
These burgers are made from scratch; we’re talking lovingly handcrafted, house-made and created with fresh locally sourced produce. Each bite is utter perfection. The beef is ground on-site, fresh every day, to create a patty that is a special blend of Wagyu and Angus cuts. These patties are then smash grilled for maximum flavour. Next up, we have the bacon, cured for 7-days and then smoked with applewood in store for a delicious and distinctive taste.
Every chicken product is free-range, and 98% of the sauces are house-made. Even the burger buns are sourced from local bakers to provide the freshest options around. Burger Geek has gone above and beyond!
Dive deep into the big blue sea with a Krabby burger; SpongeBob’s speciality includes the double smash patty, cheese, pickles, lettuce and an assortment of sauces. Enjoy an out-of-this-world experience with the Morty burger or visit Parks and Recreation with the Swanson; this pairs the smash patty with the 7-day smoked bacon, cheese, onion strings, aioli and bourbon BBQ sauce.
For chicken lovers, there are two options available; the Broli and Mustang, both are made with buttermilk fried chicken. The former comes with cheese, slaw, house-pickles and aioli. The latter has kimchi aioli, sriracha, slaw and cheese.
The Sombra and Zim are great options for vegetarians and vegans, respectively; both are made with a black bean and brown rice patty. The Sombra combines a fried egg, pico de gallo, slaw and vegan aioli. The Zim has a vegan bun, lettuce, fries, pickles, ketchup and vegan aioli.
While Burger Geek is making waves with its double smashed burgers, it would be rude to sleep on the insane side dishes available. Firstly, the hot wings, we cannot get enough. Make sure to leave space for these; they are second only to the burgers. The free-range, golden crispy American-style hot wings are unique, spicy and oh-so-delicious.
Choose a sauce to suit your palette, go naked, layer on the honey sriracha, Dr Pepper and bourbon BBQ, Franks buffalo or mango habanero. Other memorable dishes are the jalapeno poppers with cream cheese, triple mac n cheese balls, beer-battered onion rings, bacon ends with cheese and potato croquettes.
Burger Geek raises the bar for the best burgers in town, and we cannot wait to sink our teeth into the juicy goodness of a Raynor burger. Get your fix at their new spot, 478 Richmond Road, Grey Lynn, open Monday to Sunday from 5pm, and Friday lunch. As the final cherry on top, the Grey Lynn spot has just gone fully licensed, so burgers and beers it is!
