With the arrival of summer and silly season on the horizon, the time for celebrating is upon us.
Onslow has launched a martini trolley, featuring Scapegrace gin and vodka; to kick off the festivities and the long lunch.
Onslow is a beautiful and sleek restaurant; with references to the Old World; the interior is warm and welcoming with dark wooden accents and gauzy white curtains. Onslow is the perfect spot for romantic dinner dates, celebrations on the terrace and luxurious dinners with family and friends. The menu showcases Josh Emett’s culinary journey from London to New York and back to New Zealand. Everything tastes amazing and even better with a martini in hand!
Martinis are iconic, classic, sophisticated and personal. Those that drink martinis have a preference for every step of the process. While seemingly simple, this cocktail is complex. Whether you like gin or vodka martinis, with a lean towards dry, dirty or with a twist and shaken or stirred – this cocktail is entirely based on every guest’s palette. Martinis are a work of art, and with Onslow’s trolley, you can watch the magic unfold at your table.
This style of service is a throwback to the early 1900s and the supper club era – we cannot wait to get a front-row seat. Onslow has a team of experts who will create martinis to specified perfection every day of the week, during lunch and dinner service for a limited time only.
The spirit of choice; Scapegrace gin and vodka. Scapegrace was created here in New Zealand by Mark Neal and Daniel McLaughlin; the spirit has garnered quite a reputation worldwide and received countless awards due to its pure and unique taste. The secret is glacial water from the Southern Alps of New Zealand, which takes over 80 years to filter through the rocky terrain.
The classic Scapegrace gin combines the glacial water with 12 botanicals; angelica, cardamom, cassia, cinnamon, clove, coriander, juniper, lemon, liquorice, nutmeg, orange and orris root – the balance between spice and citrus creates a classic and unforgettable flavour. Then there is Scapegrace Vodka, which has a clean and pure flavour with a creamy aroma and velvety texture. The initial taste will reveal a hint of dry wheat with apple that develops into a pavlova sweetness and rose floral finish.
Pair your martini with a beautiful dish from the innovative menu, the fried bread with 6-month aged cheddar and Marsha’s honey is a wonderful companion. The botanical notes in the gin go hand-in-hand with the rich flavoured cheese. Another mouth-watering option is the Big Glory Bay salmon gravadlax fennel, with a honey mustard dressing, pickled cucumber, sour cream and toasted rye. For the vodka martini, we suggest the butter-poached snapper; with South Island Blackfoot Paua, squid ink, garlic cream and chervil.
Not only is there a Scapegrace martini trolley, but a Champagne bar on the sun-soaked terrace, serving the coveted Laurent Perrier’s Blanc de Blancs by the glass. The pop-up bar will be open daily from 3 pm – 6 pm, available until February 28th.
The martini trolley is not to be missed, it’s both an experience and a delicious cocktail all wrapped in one. The quirky trolley is an exciting way to celebrate the change of season and an early treat before Christmas. Onslow has slightly different hours during the festive season; these are listed on its website; book ahead of your visit to secure a table and treat yourself to a martini your way.
