Where to go for ramen in London
Ramen (n): undeniably fabulous Japanese dish that we all know and love (yes, that’s our official definition). We’re sharing some of our favourite places serving up all things ramen. From breakfast bowls to snazzy truffle-based flavour combos, here are some of our favourite ramen hotspots in London to add to your list.
We know, Bone Daddies is no secret in this city. But the ramen dishes are undeniably fabulous. With locations all over London, Bone Daddies is just a short journey away from where you are in the city. The noodles are perfectly chewy and the broth packs the perfect amount of spice to marry all of these delicious flavours. Here’s a new tip, though: try the breakfast ramen, a broth-less medley with some classic breakfast faves like ham, soya egg and roasted tomato. No basic foodies here.
Offering a more niche ramen experience, Yokocho’s menu is centred around regional Japanese cuisine from places like Hokkaido and Kyushu. Book a table at one of the three locations in White City, Haddon Street or Panton Street. Transport to the retro upbeat vibes of Japanese streets to get a high quality experience with high quality flavours at this traditional and vibey spot. Yokocho even offers a £10.90 ramen of the week, so keep your eyes peeled for what’s on offer.
Of course, we had to add this award-winning ramen spot to the list. Actually, it would be a crime not to share it. With locations in Covent Garden, Piccadilly, Ealing and Angel, Kanada-Ya is definitely worth a visit. It keeps the atmosphere sleek, simple and unfussy while the focus is on delivering classic and unbeatable flavours. Among them is the truffle ramen broth, made with truffle paste and truffle oil, with a pork and chicken bone broth for the base. Pretty sure that’s enough said.
Fittingly, this place was born on national ramen day – a sign that it truly knows how to serve a good bowl of ramen (and it does). The ramen bowls at Supa Ya are original, flavour packed, and curated by the self-proclaimed inauthentic ramen connoisseur. Located on Kingsland Road, Supa Ya is a place where the excitement never ends. Stop in for excellent food and be sure to keep up with the guest chef series to shake it up even more.
Ramen is popular because it’s delicious, healthy and sooo indulgent. If you’re craving all of these things in your next meal out, then Shoryu has you covered. Its iconic menu, populated by rich, authentic flavours from the mind of Chef Kanji Furukawa, includes multiple vegan options, alongside meat. There seven locations across London, including this one on Kensington High Street. We love the Kotteri Hakata Tonkotsu – a richer, thicker, meatier tonkotsu broth with double nitamago egg. What’s superb about Shoryu too is that on every table you’ll find bottles of chilli oil, sesame, soy sauce and even your own garlic press with cloves at the ready for fresh garlic in your ramen! A novel idea that works brilliantly.
OKKO’s wabi-sabi warm wooden interior and carefully curated menu is a favourite among locals and foodies in Hackney. OKKO’s Japanese Pacific fusion dishes reflect the cultures and cuisines of the Japanese diaspora from Hokkaido to Hawaii. From the usual comfort favourites of sushi, ramen and Katsu, to more bespoke fusion offerings like fish tacos and poke bowls. On the subject of ramen, this is a very vegan friendly joint so try the vegan or veggie ramen (a chicken version’s also available for meat eaters). The vegan ramen consists of miso mushroom broth with shiitake, wakame, spring onion, pickled ginger, chilli threads, tofu and ramen noodles.
