Leave the bed unmade, leave the dishwasher full, and hit the Auckland streets for a big brekkie. Eggs benedict, pancakes, halloumi, and eggs every way imaginable–Auckland has everything delicious for your morning cravings. Clear your schedule for the rest of the day because you only know you’ve done breakfast right when you need to lie down after…right?
Tucked away in the quiet streets of Grey Lynn sits your next breakfast hot-spot. Industrial and Scandi-chic, Ozone’s space is as sophisticated as it is filled with light. Just last year Ozone opened its doors to the Auckland public, and we sure are glad it did. Not only is their specialty coffee enough of a destination, the breakfasts will also fill your cup. If you’re after a hot tip regarding the menu, we can’t go past the gluten-free pancake. We live in an age where a pancake stack rules supreme – But hear us out when we say this fluffy and buttery goodness is achieved all in one thick serving. Topped with tamarillo, house labneh, and a sweet drizzle of honey, you’re idea of Sunday morning pancakes will change forever – For the better.
Okra is one of those places you count every second until your food is on your table. It’s just that good. Fill that giant void in your stomach with generous servings and delicious flavours. One glance at their Instagram and you’ll see the mushrooms are no joke around these woods. Stacked high and proud, these babies are sauteed to perfection. Feed your vegan friend with the ‘feed the vegan’ dish, filling the plate with everything from tofu scramble to the holy mushrooms. Whatever you order, be sure to add on one (or several) of Okra’s legendary homemade hashbrown logs. These guys are known for their thick and crispy potato creations, so save some stomach room!
A sophisticated affair. If you haven’t heard of the European inspired wonderland that is Britomart’s Amano, you need to do some self-educating while self-indulging in their menu. Slide into your Sunday best attire and snatch a seat by the window (if you’re lucky) to overlook the Waitemata Harbour. The menu is known to change here, but here are two things we know for sure: Whatever you order will be delicious, and you must not leave the premises without trying a pastry. The artisanal baking here is exquisite and whether you have room for it or not, the filled pastry knots are calling your name.
Some of the best scrambled eggs to ever set your eyes and mouth upon. Honey Bones’ delicious little premises is nestled into the streets of Grey Lynn with a menu to add to your breakfast bucket list. The Istanbul Scrambled is your go-to if this is your first rodeo. A creamy feta whip lashes the Turkish pide – Need we say more? With their famous scrambled eggs, crisp sage, and za’atar, the team at Honey Bones aren’t afraid of playing flavours here – And we aren’t mad about it. Otherwise, check out the seasonal options for a fresh breakfast. Grab a cup of Supreme coffee to wash it all down and you know you’re starting your morning right – Full.
Nothing is sweet about hunger pains. Cruise down the cobblestone streets of Newmarket’s Osborne Lane and order up big time with The Candy Shop’s Korean inspired menu. If the idea of a slow-cooked beef cheek with a crispy wonton eggs Benedict doesn’t entice you, the ‘Lord Toast’ will. Saw through slices of sourdough slathered with a truffle béchamel you’ll want to lick off the plate. Topped with fluffy scrambled eggs, sauteed mushrooms, streaky bacon and tomatoes, there’s no way you won’t be unbuttoning your pants post-meal. If you came to The Candy Shop expecting some sweet treats, you can always share one of their delicious cabinet goods. Carrot cake? Matcha-Oreo cheesecake? Whatever is on offer, we promise you, put your trust in these guys.
Sick of the classic eggs Bene? Try something different at this Takapuna sunny joint. The indoor-outdoor flow is perfect for those summery mornings with some good company. Don’t get us wrong, we love eggs Benedict, and if you’re craving the hollandaise creation, Honey Cafe creates a killer dish, but the pea and halloumi fritters are the real secret treasure here. Served with spiced with a mango chutney and a poached egg, fritters have been given a new ranking. We also recommend adding a side of bacon, mushrooms, or smoked salmon (or all three) to your stack.
