Rich and Sarah don’t believe the world is flat. But they do believe in challenging convention and being kind to the earth. The pair once worked in corporate hospitality, before breaking free to launch their experimental, seasonal and progressive pizza restaurant, earning many plaudits and awards in the process. Here’s the lowdown on Flat Earth Pizzas and the many reasons you need to get down there…
It’s the buzzword of our time and rightly so. Sustainability is everything right now and these two are ahead of the curve. While many gourmet pizza restaurants choose to fly refined flour over from Italy and offer a menu of set options, Flat Earth Pizzas switches up its topping combos according to what’s in season, works with a curated list of fine local suppliers, minimises waste and refuses to use cling-film.

We love Rich and Sarah’s alternative take on toppings and the nutritious inclusion of heritage grain in their bases (the dough is a blend of Gilchester’s Organic heritage grain flour and is wild-farmed). The dishes here are a dream if you’re seeking to eat more plants — all the joy of junk food, but without the junk (your gut and the planet will thank you).

The menu options move every couple of months as the seasons change. But look out for colourful pizzas such as the cauliflower and capers (cauli leaves, stems and florets, capers, three cheese grate, tomatoes and pickled onion on a cauli cream base; pear, walnut and pickled gooseberry (balsamic pear, Somerset three cheese grate, Shropshire Blue, pickled gooseberry, walnuts, béchamel and miso aubergine); and chunky roasted soy and ginger aubergine with smacked cucumber, miso glaze, Somerset three cheese grate and plum passata.

Popping in for a spot of brunch? Opt for a kimchi shakshuka (house-made kimchi, eggs, smoky tomatoes and house focaccia); or a corn “egg” shakshuka (sweetcorn, chickpeas, smoky tomatoes, black salt and house focaccia). And do be sure to leave room for some affogato or a brownie made by Cake or Death.
Kids have their own menu too, offering a main, a pud and a drink for £8.

Flat Earth Pizzas is one of just three London brands to have been featured on Deliveroo’s #LoveYourLocal campaign. It was named the ‘Most Sustainable Food Business 2022 and 2021’ by Greater London SME News Awards and one of the Top 10 pizza places in London by Olive Magazine.
It was a National Pizza Awards Finalist in 2021 and 2022 and was listed as one of the ‘Top 10 eco-eateries’ by the Evening Standard. The brand has also been covered in the Hackney Gazette, Metro, The Guardian and in Courier.

There’s a stellar range of vegan wines, with several organic vinos on tap. You’ll also find bottles of white, red, rose, fizz, pink fizz and even orange wine on the menu — most of which can be ordered by the glass. In the mood for a cocktail? Try a Quince Charming (woodland bitters, quince and cinnamon liqueur, gin, lemon juice and soda all topped with a lemon slice); a Climpson and Sons Espresso Martini made with spirits from East London liquor company; or a Fig Leaf and Sweet Woodruff Martini (fig, sweet woodruff and anise liqueur, vodka, apple juice, lemon juice and dehydrated apple).

As well as dining in the restaurant, you can do a spot of sustainable shopping at its new store. Flat Earth Pizzas has partnered with other eco-conscious brands such as Dook, Amuse La Bouche, Unruly Flowers, Do Books and Three Irons, to stock a select range of homewares, clothing, gifts, cards and wreaths.
You’ll find Flat Earth Pizzas in a trendy pocket of East London, on the Cambridge Heath Road, at the corner of Vyner Street; Regent’s Canal is conveniently closeby should you fancy a stroll before or after your meal. There are a handful of tables outside and large floor-to-ceiling windows inside, so you can watch the world go by as you tuck in. Be sure to book yourself a seat ahead of time and save room for a guilt-free heritage grain pizza. And if you’re having a party, you can even hire out the whole place!
