Must visit coffee shops in Liverpool
In Liverpool, you are never over 10 metres away from coffee shops, or so it may seem. This city is full of independent cafes serving your caffeine fix each day with a tasty side of treats or a delicious lunch. However, with so many to choose from it can be difficult to separate your lattes from cappuccinos. Luckily, we have given them all a go, and here are some of our favourites.
Bold Street Coffee is one of the most popular coffee shops in Liverpool, based on the busy Bold Street – hence the name. They serve delicious speciality coffees as well as tasty brunch in a cool, edgy setting. We recommend a breakfast bowl and a pour over coffee. Head over to Bold Street Coffee if you want an iconic option with great coffee every time.
Check out Mother Espresso, a fairly new place for coffee served up in a minimalist venue. It is one of the coolest and simplest venues in Liverpool where you can grab a sencha green tea or brew filter coffee. If you’re also a bit peckish then why not browse their vast brunch menu with tasty classics like bacon sandwiches and eggs Benedict or try avocado on toast, a vegan breakfast or poached pears, there is something to accommodate everyone.
92 degrees is a great hub for scholars and students as it’s only a short walk away from both University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores. You will often find very tired PHD students and lecturers there taking a little bit of time for themselves. It’s the first combined coffee shop and roastery in Liverpool, and is situated in the Georgia Quarter; a delicious smell always flows from within. You just won’t be able to resist a wonderful cup of the Fairtrade coffee as soon as you get inside.
Rococo is hidden away on Church Street, the shopping part of the city, and is actually one of the few independent coffee shops up there. You’ll find it behind a large door and up a steep staircase. This coffee shop is definitely deceiving from the outside, because once you’re in you’ll realise how expansive it is. Plus, it’s the second oldest building in that area! They serve tasty lunches and fair-trade coffees. It’s the perfect café if you fancy a bit of peace and quiet, you can hide away in one of their many rooms and sink away in a chair whilst you sip on your hot coffee. Bliss.
Before Coffee & Fandisha opened in 2014, the Baltic Triangle was in serious need of a speciality coffee shop. This is an edgy venue inspired by Ethiopia, where coffee is served as a traditional welcome with popcorn on the side. The front is covered in beautiful street art. They also offer some unusual combinations on their menu that you must try like honeycomb hot chocolate or a mint infused mocha.
The GPO is Liverpool’s biggest food hall, boasting 11 independent kitchens and over 400 dishes! Plus, ordering is made easier as it’s all done through the iBe app, which you can download and sign up to for free. The coffee comes courtesy of Monkeyboard Coffee. Freshly roasted coffee from bean to cup, their prices are reasonable and their taste is superb. You’ll find all your favourites on the menu alongside batch brews and pour over coffees. A great pit stop after a long day of shopping.
